Important VCHECK Information - please read

WARNING: A vehicle showing a WRITTEN-OFF VEHICLE INSPECTION PASSED (NSW), status may still require a written-off vehicle inspection

An issue has arisen with vehicles that have been repairable write-offs (from any state), that have undergone inspection in NSW and subsequently removed from the written-of vehicle register. These vehicles will show up on a VCheck certificate with a status of NSW WOVI PASS, where WOVI stand for Written Off Vehicle Inspection.

The information provided to VCheck comes via the NATIONAL EXCHANGE OF VEHICLE AND DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM (NEVDIS).

NSW has a two (2) tier inspection system: RTA Inspections (a more stringent inspection that is accepted by all other states and territories) and Blue Slip Inspections (are not accepted by other states and territories)

Currently, the differential between these two (2) tiers of inspections is clear within NEVDIS, and shows on VCheck Certificates. However, recent changes to the RTA NSW reporting structure mean that unfortunately NEVDIS will not be able differentiate between the two inspection types.

This means that vehicles that have been a repairable write-off and are showing a status of WRITTEN-OFF VEHICLE INSPECTION PASSED (NSW), may not have undergone the full identification and engineering checks that would allow them to be registered in states other then NSW.

In conjunction with Queensland Transport we are working on adding additional wording to the certificate to highlight vehicles with this status. In the mean time however, we have added this important notice to our Vcheck website, and there will be a message for affected vehicles on the summary screen.

If you have a certificate showing a status of NSW WRITTEN-OFF VEHICLE INSPECTION PASSED with an inspection date in 2008 or later, you should contact the RTA to determine which type of inspection the vehicle has undergone.
